GAME REVIEW - Changed Stars

Changed Stars is the latest in a long legacy of woke (we're taking woke back) science fiction TTRPGs. While it meets the mark closer than many of its contemporaries, some unaddressed cultural milieu dampens the otherwise thoughtful worldbuilding. Despite this, I would recommend this game to people interested in anti-colonial science fiction both for the novel ship combat system and deconstruction of common utopian science fiction tropes.

CONCLUSION

There is not much to say that I have not already said. When I give reviews, I do some from an analytical framework rather than a "did I like or dislike this" framework. So it would be inaccurate to say that I am a critic of whom gives recommendations. Not that there's anything stopping me from doing so either. Since nothing's stopping me, I recommend Changed Stars for fans of the spacefaring genre who are interested in seeing anti-imperialist takes on the genre. The setting and mechanics need more work to reach it but because of the way the genre is, it would cease to resemble a science fiction game if that were the case. The decisions that the creators made were not just political in mindset. They were about demonstrating how they can improve upon the things that they love. So the question then becomes, has it been improved? The answer is a resounding yes. I support this endeavour and I will be following the team so I can see future works from them.
